Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that can make use of a light trance state similar to daydreaming, meditation or a deep relaxation. Everybody experiences this type of relaxed focus from time to time, for example when watching a captivating film, taking part in a sport, or when we receive a massage, while praying or in the moments between waking and sleeping.
During a therapeutic trance the client is always aware of what is happening. This deep relaxation makes it possible to make direct contact with your subconscious mind. Emotions and memories that are usually avoided and suppressed in our unconscious can be then more easily retrieved and consciously felt and expressed. This leaves space for your authentic self, helps you discover new inner resources for your healing process.
In the safe space of therapy there will also be different moments when not induced natural trance will be used to enable you to feel deeper experiences and emotions. Your mind or soul may give new insights that can bring about deep changes and improvements in a relatively short time.
The aim is a short period of therapy, between five and ten sessions depending on the problem. The frequency and the methods are discussed with the client. Usually the sessions take place every two or three weeks. Every session is a step forward in the personal growth. Each session has a particular value, both of its own and in the wider context of the whole therapy process. The client is always central in the therapy and is respected, not judged, and is seen as a unique individual who is able to take decisions on the course of the therapy together with the therapist.
Hypnotherapy can be combined perfectly with most other forms of therapy.
Possible methods
Hypnotherapy can use different techniques and methods that can also be used in combination with each other. Most of them can be used under trance, but this is not necessary for the effectiveness of the method.
