Art therapy can be the most appropriate form of therapy for expressing childhood inner experiences and emotions and for people for whom words are not enough.
Art therapy uses materials like paint, pencils, oil pastels, pastels, and clay, in order to bring about inner changes. Unconscious thoughts and emotions become visible in a tangible object that can be talked about. Every material has its own characteristics, uses and challenges.
Art therapy can play a useful role in a therapeutic process if people are motivated to take part. Creativity is important for each of us. It gives expression from inside out and helps in communication. The need to create and to leave traces behind is a characteristic of human beings since prehistoric times. I try to stimulate my clients to find their own creative expression. According to the client’s wishes, this can be writing, dancing, singing or some other form.
